Peer Counsellor Training
Those people who have undertaken the LLLGB PCP Administrator Training are then equiped to train breastfeeding peer counsellors. It takes 12 2½ hour sessions to cover the Breastfeeding Peer Counsellor Programme Curriculum. During this time they will be provided with back up materials.
In order to ensure that the mothers have enough knowledge we ask that they attend all the sessions. It is expected that mothers will be trained in a place central to the area where they all live. Babes in arms are most welcome but toddlers can be distracting when in the same room.
After the training is completed there is usually a graduation ceremony where each peer counsellor will receive a course certificate.
In areas where the programme licence has been paid for it is possible to run shorter courses for dads, grannies or other interested people. This would be a separate course from the peer counsellor training. Please discuss this with us before you start. We will provide a certificate to suit the shortened course.
